Happy New Year

Jack is doing great. His ears are healing nicely. The new skin graft is wrinkling a bit like in the past, but it is our hope that the ear projection will stay just as it is right now. The two ears match pretty well and the ear canal on the left ear looks much bigger.

I have to share this story... Last week, Jack came in and was talking to me about his ears. He was telling me that his ear does not bend any more on the top (where the medpor is), but that it does bend down on the ear lobe. He was telling me very factually, like he was just informing me. He wasn't upset about it or anything. So, I told him that it was just a little while ago that he didn't have any ears and that Dr. Roberson and Dr. Reinisch did the surgery so that he could have his big ears. He looked at me like I was completely crazy! It was very cute. He has absolutely no recollection of having microtia or what his ears were like before all of this. I thought that was kind of amazing.

Here are some pics from today:

Happy New Year!

I am so glad to see that Jack is doing so well. I see that you have had another surgery and use, again, of the BAHA. But when I think back to the little boy I first met, lo those many years ago, he seems to be doing marvelously well! He has grown so much. He looks so much like a little boy, and not the toddler I once knew! Thanks you for posting pix and comments again. I hope that the rest of your family is happy and healthy and that 2010 is treating you all very well,

I am so happy that Jack is doing well! We have a son with Atrsia on his right side, and we are thinking of doing the Combined Atresia Repair - Microtia Reconstruction Surgery.
I am very nervous since this will be my son first major sugery. I read with great interest the progress on your blog and I really feel good that your son will look beautiful at the end of this long journey.

Our son Daniel is 8 and we are thinking of doing the surgery in August, but I think it will not be enough time for him to recover before school starts.

Thank you,
Ivan Ruiz

Hello, I am a mother of a two year old boy named Corbin. He has atresia/microtia on the left side. We live in North Carolina and we are doing research on the best repair option. I am struggling with the fact that there aren't historical studies to show success rates/rejection rates of Medpor. I feel comfortable with the success rate of the rib graft reconstruction, but I don't like that it is multiple surgeries. Anyway, your blog is very encouraging and I would very much like to ask you questions if you have time to communicate via email. Thank you,

Hi There,
I am so happy not only that Jack is doing great, but I am thankful for your blog and pictures. I just viewed EVERYTHING and it is so wonderfully put together and documented. I so appreciate this as my husband and I are considering having Medpor done on our daughter Ally who is currently only 11 months old now but we are doing our research now. So, again...I thank you for putting the time together for this blog and all of Jack's photos so we could keep up with his surgeries and for learning from your experiences. Thank you!
Melissa and Ally (RMA, 11 months old)
